Prostate Cancer

With Program Grant funding from The Medical Foundation, Dr Qihan Dong and his team have identified several genes whose expression is altered in prostate cancer, and established a molecular classification system for organ-confined prostatic cancer based on the genes they identified. The new molecular classification system will provide clinicians with the means to improve early detection, diagnosis, and prognosis prediction. It will also allow then to select therapies for individual patients and to monitor the cancer response to various forms of treatment.

Dr Dong is a Senior Research Fellow and head of the Cancer Genetics Group at the University of Sydney.

In further research, with assistance from the Reginald Ward and Adrian Cotter Foundation, Dr Dong hopes to develop an innovative therapeutic regimen to treat patients with advanced prostate cancer.
